Your crew lives on your Mac. Notchpals has no account and no analytics, and what it reads to time a reminder never leaves your Mac. Here is everything it reads, what it keeps, the few things it sends, and what this website does.
What Notchpals reads, and why
Notchpals reads these on your Mac, only to decide when a character should visit. None of it leaves your Mac.
- The time and the day, and the meal times, bedtime and birthday you set, so lunch comes at lunchtime.
- How long ago you last used the keyboard, mouse or trackpad, so characters visit only while you're there. Only a time, never what you typed or clicked.
- Whether your microphone or camera is in use, so your crew stays quiet on calls. Only whether, never what they hear or see. Notchpals never turns either of them on.
- Whether a full screen app is in front, so a film or a presentation is never interrupted.
- Which app is in front, so a Focus character can notice a long scroll in a distracting app. Only the app, never what is in it.
- For Tech care characters: the battery level and whether it's charging, how long since the Mac restarted, and how full the startup disk is.
- Your calendar, only if you pick a Schedule character and allow it: when your next meeting starts, so it can tell you a few minutes before. Never the title, the people or the notes.
What stays on your Mac
- Your crew, your settings, and a record of recent visits, so a line isn't repeated within a few days.
- The characters you have downloaded.
- Your license key, in your Mac's Keychain.
What goes online, and only this
- Characters, from notchpals.everydaymactools.com: the catalog and each character's pictures and lines. Every download is checked against our signature before it is used.
- License checks, with Dodo Payments, our merchant of record: your license key and a name for this Mac, so one key can count its 3 Macs.
- Your characters, with our server at notchpals.everydaymactools.com: your license key, to record Blip and the 2 characters you picked, open a checkout for others and fetch the ones you own. The server keeps a fingerprint of your key (a SHA-256 hash), never the key itself, with those characters and Dodo's payment ids.
- Update checks, once a day if you leave them on: Notchpals asks notchpals.everydaymactools.com for the list of versions. Updates download only from there.
Buying opens the checkout in your browser.
This website
This site uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies, to count visits and see which pages people read. Notchpals itself does not use it.
The home page also shows badges from the directories that list Notchpals. Your browser loads each badge from that directory's own site when you scroll down to it.
The two pages you see after paying, with your license key or payment status in their address, are different: they load nothing from anywhere else, carry no analytics, take the key out of the address at once, and are left out of our server's logs.
Checkout happens on Dodo Payments, who handle your payment details under their own privacy policy. We receive your email address and the order, so we can send your key and help if something goes wrong.
